Chinese mainland reclaims Women’s Asia Cup crown with 4-1 win over India

Under a buzzing Hangzhou Hockey Stadium, the Chinese mainland’s women’s hockey team clinched the Women's Asia Cup 2025 title with a commanding 4-1 victory over India. It’s their third championship and first since 2009, ending a 16-year wait and punching their ticket to the upcoming Hockey World Cup.

India stunned the hosts within the opening minute when Navneet Kaur smashed home a series of penalty corners to make it 1-0. The early strike set the tone, but the team responded by turning up the pressure. In the 21st minute, captain Ou Zixia coolly converted a penalty corner to level the score and restore balance.

The second half saw China seize control. Li Hong slotted home a composed finish in the 41st minute to put the hosts ahead, before Zhang Ying’s pinpoint feed set up Zou Meirong for a 3-1 lead just ten minutes later. With momentum firmly on their side, China wrapped up the win when Zhong Jiaqi netted the fourth goal, echoing memories of the 2009 final against India.

Meanwhile, in the bronze medal match, Japan displayed tactical discipline to defeat South Korea and secure third place on the podium.

This triumph not only marks a homecoming of glory for the Chinese mainland team but also signals their readiness to challenge the world’s best in the Hockey World Cup.
