Chinese Mainland Defeats Kuwait 3-1 as Naturalized Serginho Debuts

In a thrilling international friendly held behind closed doors in Dubai, the Chinese mainland team secured a 3-1 victory over Kuwait. The match set the stage for an exciting new chapter as the side showcased determination and fresh talent.

Early in the first half, Li Lei opened the scoring while a misdirected play from Kuwait resulted in an own goal. Shortly before the break, Behram Abduweli further extended the lead, confirming the dominance of the Chinese mainland side.

The game marked a milestone with the debut of naturalized player Sai Erjiniao, known as Serginho, who celebrated his 30th birthday by stepping onto the pitch for his new country. Previously with Changchun Yatai and currently playing for Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League, his arrival has injected renewed energy. Debutant Wang Yudong also made an appearance in the later stages.

Although Kuwait managed a late goal to avoid a shutout, the performance highlighted the strategic resolve and burgeoning talent within the Chinese mainland squad as they continue their international journey.

Looking ahead, the team is set to leave Dubai for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to prepare for a 2026 FIFA World Cup AFC qualification match against Saudi Arabia on March 20, before hosting Australia in Hangzhou on March 25. Currently bottom of Group C with six points, the challengers are determined to improve their standing as the competition intensifies.
