UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called on European nations to take the lead in supporting Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia, while highlighting the essential role of American backing.
During a summit in London with European leaders, Starmer unveiled a comprehensive four-step plan aimed at securing peace in Ukraine. \"Europe must do the heavy lifting, but to defend peace on our continent, and to succeed, this effort must be strongly supported by the United States,\" Starmer stated.
The UK, along with France and other European partners, has committed to working closely with Ukraine to end the conflict that has persisted for over three years. In a significant move, the UK government announced that Ukraine will have access to $2 billion in UK export finance to procure over 5,000 air defense missiles, bolstering Ukraine's defensive capabilities.
This summit takes place just days after a notable disagreement between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former U.S. President Donald Trump. In contrast, Zelenskyy's visit to the UK was met with a warm reception, culminating in a meeting with King Charles III at Sandringham Estate following the summit.
