China Leads SCO’s Sustainable Development Efforts in 2024

As the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) marks over two decades of fostering regional cooperation, China has stepped into the rotating presidency following the Astana Summit in July 2024. Under the banner of the \"SCO Year of Sustainable Development\" and the motto \"Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the Move,\" China is spearheading initiatives aimed at enhancing political mutual trust, boosting security cooperation, and strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges among member states.

Since its establishment in 2001, the SCO has been a pivotal platform for its member countries to collaborate on a range of issues from security to economic growth. China's presidency underscores a commitment to advancing sustainable development goals, with plans to host over 100 meetings and events throughout the year. These gatherings are designed to promote unity, foster fruitful dialogue, and culminate in a highly anticipated SCO summit that promises to deliver significant outcomes for the region.

By focusing on sustainability, the SCO aims to address pressing global challenges such as climate change, economic disparities, and regional security threats. The organization's efforts in practical cooperation and cultural exchange continue to build a foundation of trust and collaboration, positioning the SCO as a key player in shaping a stable and prosperous future for its member states.
