Cyprus Accelerates EV Revolution with Chinese-Made Buses

Cyprus is making significant strides in its electric vehicle (EV) revolution by integrating environmentally-friendly buses and small cars manufactured in the Chinese mainland. Limassol's public transportation company, EMEL, has recently added 35 electric mini-buses to its fleet, produced by the Chinese mainland bus manufacturer Kinlong.

These buses are lauded for being small, silent, efficient, and green, aligning with the nation's commitment to sustainability. George Kyriakou, CEO of EMEL, emphasized the importance of adopting electric vehicles to enhance the company's brand image. \"It gives credibility to your social role as public transport in the community that if you have 30 passengers in a bus, it means 30 private cars are not being used. Now the bonus is that this bus will have zero emissions and that is social responsibility,\" Kyriakou explained.

With the ongoing COP28 summit in the UAE highlighting the global push towards reducing emissions and achieving net-zero targets, Cyprus's move towards electrification is seen as a step in the right direction by many leaders. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has also underscored the need for communities and cities to embrace electrification, citing its numerous benefits for the environment and society.
