Chongqing Municipality has kicked off the second edition of the Belt and Road International Skills Competition, welcoming over 300 young talents from around the world. Running from Monday to Wednesday, the competition features 11 diverse events ranging from freight logistics and floristry to hairdressing and pastry making.
The event showcases a vibrant mix of participants, including 20 from Asia, 10 from Europe, 23 from Africa, two from Oceania, and three from the Americas. With an average age of 22, more than 95 percent of the competitors are under 30, and over 40 percent are 20 or younger, highlighting the event’s focus on nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals.
One standout participant is 18-year-old Yu Junjie, competing in the electrical techniques category. \"This project requires us to apply the principles of electronics to solve real-world problems by designing and manufacturing functional circuits,\" Yu explained. He added, \"This includes circuit design, embedded programming, troubleshooting, circuit board assembly, soldering, and testing. Currently, I can solder over 350 joints in about three hours, which would likely place me among the top three in the country.\"
Wang Xiaojun, deputy director general of the Vocational Capacity Building Department at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, emphasized the competition’s role as a platform for learning and exchanging vocational skills among Belt and Road Initiative partner countries and regions. \"This competition not only highlights the incredible skills of young individuals but also fosters international collaboration and knowledge sharing,\" Wang stated.
The Belt and Road International Skills Competition continues to be a significant event for promoting vocational excellence and cross-cultural engagement, aligning with the broader goals of the Belt and Road Initiative to enhance connectivity and cooperation across participating nations.
