China Unveils Revolutionary Brain-Machine Interface at Zhongguancun Forum

China has taken a significant leap forward in brain-machine interface (BMI) technology by unveiling the NeuCyber Array BMI System at the 2024 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum) in Beijing on Thursday.

During the opening ceremony, a captivating video demonstration showcased the system's capabilities: a monkey, with its hands restrained and soft electrode filaments implanted in its brain, successfully controlled an isolated robotic arm to grasp a strawberry using only its \\"thoughts\\".

Luo Minmin, director of the Chinese Institute for Brain Research in Beijing, which co-developed the system alongside NeuCyber NeuroTech (Beijing) Co., Ltd., stated that the NeuCyber Array BMI System bridges the gap in high-performance invasive BMI technology within China.

The BMI acts as an \\"information highway\\" for the brain, enabling seamless communication with external devices and advancing human-machine interaction and hybrid intelligence. \\"In short, the technology captures the subtle changes of electrical signals from neurons and decodes the brain's intentions, to realize 'thoughts' control 'actions',\\" Luo explained.
