After 13 unforgettable seasons in white, Luka Modric is set to wave goodbye to Real Madrid. The 39-year-old Croatian playmaker, the most decorated player in the clubâs history, will leave the Santiago Bernabeu after this summerâs FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
Modric took to social media with a heartfelt message: âThe moment has arrived. The moment I never wanted to come, but thatâs football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end.â
Real Madrid announced they will honor Modric in the final La Liga match of the season against Real Sociedad. Fans will get one last chance to applaud the midfielder who helped shape one of the clubâs most successful eras.
Since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Modric has played 590 games for Madrid, scoring 43 goals. His trophy cabinet boasts 28 major titles, including six UEFA Champions League crowns, six Club World Cups, and four La Liga championships.
Among his individual honors are the 2018 Ballon dâOr, FIFAâs Best Menâs Player award, and two Champions League Midfielder of the Season awards. He is one of only five players to lift the Champions League six times.
Modric did not outline his next steps, but with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the veteran may have his sights set on one final chapter with Croatia.
âIâm leaving filled with pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories,â the midfielder added. âIâll always be a madridista.â
