Zelenskyy’s Popularity Soars Amid US-Ukrainian Tensions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is enjoying a surge in popularity as tensions with the U.S. administration escalate. According to a recent poll released on Friday by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), Zelenskyy's approval rating climbed sharply to 68 percent in early March, a significant jump from 57 percent just a month earlier.

Simultaneously, his disapproval rating saw a notable decrease, dropping from 37 percent to 27 percent. These figures suggest a growing confidence in Zelenskyy's leadership during challenging times.

Anton Hrushetsky, the executive director of KIIS, commented on the results, stating, "Ukrainians perceive the rhetoric of the new U.S. government as an attack on the whole of Ukraine and all Ukrainians." This sentiment appears to resonate strongly with the public, bolstering Zelenskyy's support.

The recent rise in approval comes in the wake of a contentious meeting between Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump, along with Vice President JD Vance, at the White House on February 28. The encounter quickly escalated into a heated exchange, resulting in the cancellation of a scheduled news conference and the shelving of a much-anticipated bilateral raw materials agreement.

Despite these diplomatic strains, Zelenskyy's ability to maintain and even increase his popularity highlights his resilient leadership and the unwavering support from his constituents amidst international challenges.
