China’s 20th CPC Central Committee Adopts Major Modernization Reforms

The 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has adopted a comprehensive resolution aimed at deepening reforms to advance Chinese modernization. Held in Beijing from Monday to Thursday, the third plenary session was presided over by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered key addresses, outlining the vision to build a high-standard socialist market economy by 2035. The resolution emphasizes improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, enhancing governance capacity, and laying the groundwork for China to become a great modern socialist country by the mid-21st century.

The reforms focus on several critical areas:

  • Economic Development: Leveraging the role of the market, fostering a fair and dynamic environment, and ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • High-Quality Growth: Deepening supply-side structural reforms, integrating the real and digital economies, and modernizing infrastructure.
  • Innovation: Reforming education and scientific institutions, and developing talent to drive technological advancements.
  • Urban and Rural Integration: Promoting balanced development between cities and the countryside to achieve common prosperity.
  • Opening Up: Expanding institutional openness, reforming foreign trade structures, and enhancing cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The resolution also addresses governance improvements, cultural confidence, ecological conservation, national security, and the rule of law. By 2029, the reforms aim to solidify China’s economic and social foundations, ensuring sustainable and resilient growth.

Additionally, the session confirmed leadership changes, including the resignation of Qin Gang from the Central Committee and the expulsion of several members from the Party, underscoring the CPC’s commitment to maintaining leadership integrity.

With 199 members and 165 alternate members in attendance, the session marks a significant step in China’s ongoing efforts to modernize and sustain its development trajectory.
