Xi Jinping and Kyrgyz President Strengthen Ties Ahead of SCO Summit

In a significant move ahead of the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov in Xi'an.

The leaders revisited their discussions from May last year, highlighting the fruitful outcomes and the consensus reached on enhancing China-Kyrgyzstan relations. Over the past year, Xi emphasized the effective implementation of agreements, noting a steady stream of positive developments in their bilateral cooperation.

President Xi expressed China's commitment to supporting Kyrgyzstan's national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He advocated for the exploration of innovative approaches to deepen Belt and Road cooperation, aiming to enhance economic, trade, and investment ties while boosting connectivity and collaboration on emerging productive forces.

Further, Xi highlighted China's willingness to import high-quality green agricultural products from Kyrgyzstan, support Chinese enterprises investing in the region, and strengthen cooperation in new energy vehicles and cross-border e-commerce. He also underscored the importance of accelerating the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which aims to bolster regional connectivity.

President Japarov echoed these sentiments, recalling his visit to China as a turning point that ushered in a new era of bilateral relations. He praised the ongoing political and economic cooperation, noting the absence of political differences and cooperation obstacles between the two nations. Japarov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan's adherence to the one-China principle and welcomed increased Chinese investment, promising a favorable business environment.

The leaders agreed to work together on the railway project and enhance multilateral communication within the SCO framework, ensuring that the organization progresses in a direction that benefits all member parties.
