China Reaffirms Human Rights Stance at EU Dialogue

At the 39th session of the joint Human Rights Dialogue held in Chongqing on June 16, Chinese representatives presented a comprehensive view on human rights to visiting EU diplomats. The dialogue continued with a visit to southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region from June 13 to 15.

Discussions delved into various human rights developments within both China and the EU, fostering a platform for in-depth conversation.

Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu delivered an extensive overview of China's human rights philosophy and achievements during talks with Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Director General for Asia and the Pacific of the European External Action Service, in Beijing on June 17.

Miao emphasized that the Communist Party of China is dedicated to wholeheartedly serving the people, asserting that developing and safeguarding the fundamental interests of its citizens constitutes the greatest human right. He highlighted that China’s approach to human rights development is tailored to its national conditions, resulting in historic achievements.

\"China is comprehensively promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese modernization, which will further improve the level of China's human rights protection,\" Miao stated.

He also highlighted China's opposition to politicizing human rights issues and the application of double standards. China stands against imposing a single human rights model on others, using human rights as a pretext to interfere in its internal affairs, and engaging in confrontations on multilateral platforms. Miao expressed a desire to enhance communication between China and Europe to foster mutual understanding.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Shen Bo, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Director General for Asia and the Pacific of the EEAS.
