In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Igor Kobzev, the governor of Russia's Irkutsk region, in Irkutsk on Wednesday.
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, emphasized that as China advances its modernization efforts and Russia accelerates development in the Far East, both nations are presented with historic opportunities for enhanced cooperation.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of local cooperation in strengthening China-Russia ties, noting that the Irkutsk regionโs abundant natural resources and robust industrial base offer unique advantages for collaborative endeavors with China.
\"China supports closer and mutually beneficial cooperation between our local provinces and cities for the benefit of our peoples,\" Wang Yi stated.
Governor Kobzev acknowledged that China is the largest trading partner of the Irkutsk region, with trade between the two maintaining strong growth. He expressed a commitment to expanding exchanges and cooperation with China in sectors such as agriculture, energy resources, culture, education, and tourism. The goal is to attract more Chinese investments and provide a better business environment for Chinese enterprises.
