The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) initiated joint military drills surrounding the island of Taiwan at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday.
The exercises are taking place in the Taiwan Straits, as well as to the north, south, and east of the island, including areas around Kinmen, Matsu, Wuqiu, and Dongyin islands.
Li Xi, spokesperson for the theater command, stated that the army, navy, air force, and rocket force are collectively conducting the drills, which are code-named Joint Sword-2024A, from Thursday to Friday.
