Chinese President Xi Jinping has responded to a heartfelt letter from the workers of the HBIS Smederevo Steel Plant in Serbia. In his letter dated April 29, Xi expressed his encouragement for the workers to continue contributing to the enduring friendship between China and Serbia.
Reflecting on his 2016 state visit to Serbia, Xi recalled meeting the steelworkers in person at the Smederevo Steel Plant. He acknowledged their unwavering support for the collaborative efforts between the two nations and their optimism for the plant's future.
Xi highlighted the remarkable transformation of the steel plant, crediting the joint efforts of management and workers in turning losses into gains. This success has not only revitalized the plant but also significantly supported the development of Smederevo City, ensuring stable employment for over 5,000 individuals and fostering a thriving community.
The Chinese president praised the dedication and hard work of the steelworkers, which have been pivotal in the plant's rapid growth. He emphasized that their efforts have solidified the iron-clad friendship between China and Serbia and exemplified the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries.
