Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has embarked on a significant tour of four African nations—Namibia, the Republic of the Congo, Chad, and Nigeria—from January 5 to 11. This visit underscores China's long-standing commitment to fostering strong China-Africa relations, continuing a 35-year tradition of Chinese foreign ministers visiting Africa at the start of each year.
The trip aims to build on the outcomes of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), promoting deeper cooperation in areas such as peace and security, economic integration across Africa, supply chain stability, and cross-continental prosperity. This visit highlights China's dedication to the development of the Global South and the implementation of key initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
In 2024, the Sino-African relationship achieved numerous milestones, including the adoption of the Beijing Action Plan (2025-2027) at the FOCAC Beijing Summit. China has remained Africa's top commercial partner for 15 consecutive years, facilitating advancements in technology transfers, talent development, infrastructure, medicine, the digital economy, and agriculture.
