Boao Forum for Asia 2024 Showcases China’s Zero Carbon Innovations

This year's Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan placed a strong emphasis on zero carbon and sustainable development, highlighting China's commitment to a greener future. With over 40 panel discussions, the forum focused on renewable energy, climate action, and innovative green technologies.

A standout feature was the near-zero carbon demonstration zone, which began trial operations in March. This zone ensures zero-carbon operations through 18 projects, including landscaping, green building, and eco-friendly transportation, utilizing local wind, light, and heat resources to promote renewable energy and high functional efficiency.

Leaders such as Zhou Xiaochuan, vice-chairman of the BFA Board, and Liu Zhenya, founding chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, emphasized the importance of investing in renewable energy and addressing the challenges of power supply amid natural disasters. Zou Ji, CEO and president of Energy Foundation China, and Nishant Bhardwaj, deputy director of the Global Green Growth Institute, discussed the role of technological innovation and international cooperation in advancing green energy solutions.

Hainan's progress as a national ecological civilization pilot zone was highlighted, with significant improvements in air quality and ambitious plans to become a \"green energy island\" by 2035. China's dominance in the global renewable energy market and efforts to reduce costs in wind and photovoltaic power were presented as key factors in achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

The forum also underscored the importance of South-South cooperation in supporting energy transition in developing regions, emphasizing that collaboration is essential for Asia's sustainable growth and for addressing global climate challenges.
