BRI Turns 10: A Decade of Global Cooperation and Modernization

This year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s proposal to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Over the past decade, the BRI has evolved into a prominent international public project and a vital platform for global cooperation.

What sets the BRI apart from other initiatives is its comprehensive approach to infrastructure development, economic integration, and cultural exchange across participating countries. By fostering connectivity through roads, railways, ports, and digital networks, the BRI has facilitated trade growth, investment opportunities, and closer ties among nations.

The impact of the BRI on participating countries is multifaceted. Economically, it has spurred development in emerging markets, creating jobs and boosting local economies. Technologically, it has promoted innovation through the integration of smart infrastructure and digital solutions. Socially and culturally, the BRI has enhanced mutual understanding and cooperation among diverse populations.

However, the initiative has faced criticism regarding debt sustainability, environmental concerns, and geopolitical implications. Addressing these challenges is crucial for maintaining the BRI's momentum and ensuring its benefits are widely shared.

To delve deeper into the BRI's journey and its future prospects, the Second International Forum on \"Dialogue between China and the World\" was held, chaired by Renmin University of China. Esteemed guests included Bruno Maçães, former Portuguese minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs; Zoon Ahmed Khan, researcher at the Belt and Road Strategic Research Institute of Tsinghua University; Augusto Soto, director at ESADE Business School’s \"Dialogue with China\" program; Prof. Adrian H. Hearn from the University of Melbourne; and Wang Yiwei, vice president of the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

These thought leaders discussed the BRI's achievements, its role in modernizing global infrastructure, and strategies to address criticisms. Their insights highlight the BRI's potential to continue shaping a more connected and cooperative world.
