Severe weather has struck Longnan City in the northwest of the Chinese mainland's Gansu Province, leaving more than 13,400 individuals affected as of early Wednesday morning. Torrential rains exceeding 300 millimeters poured down from Monday to Wednesday, according to local meteorological authorities.
The heavy downpours triggered mountain torrents, landslides, and mudslides, resulting in the closure of 14 highways. These natural disasters have caused significant damage to residential areas and farmlands, disrupting daily life and economic activities.
In response to the crisis, 5,622 residents have been evacuated to safer locations. Emergency services have been working around the clock to restore normalcy, with four out of the 14 affected roads already reopened and 13 of the 24 damaged 10-kilovolt power lines being repaired.
Authorities in Longnan have activated a Level III emergency response, the third-highest alert level, to manage the flooding. Relevant departments and personnel remain on 24-hour standby, dedicating their efforts to minimize the impact of the disaster and support the affected communities.
