Strong rainstorms have swept through Baoji City in Shaanxi Province, northwest China, leading to sudden landslides and mudslides that have significantly disrupted local traffic.
Between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, the city received an average precipitation of 67.4 millimeters, with some areas experiencing rainfall of up to 209 millimeters, according to data from Shaanxi's meteorological observatory.
The heavy downpours overwhelmed the area's drainage systems, causing sections of two highways and an expressway to be blocked by debris and mud. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported at this time.
In response to the severe weather conditions, Shaanxi authorities activated a Level IV emergency response for flood control early Wednesday morning. Additionally, Baoji issued a flash flood warning late Tuesday evening to alert residents and travelers.
