Heavy Rains Cause Severe Water Logging in Delhi

Early Friday morning, heavy rains disrupted daily life in New Delhi, leaving several areas inundated with water. The downpour, lasting over three hours, led to significant water logging across various parts of the city.

Vehicles were reported submerged under bridges, particularly in the NDMC area, which houses key government buildings and official residences of federal lawmakers and senior officials. Notably, a car and a bus were seen submerged near ITO, just a short distance from the Indian Parliament.

Connaught Place, Dhaula Kuan, Moolchand Bridge, and the Safdarjung crossing also faced similar flooding issues, causing major disruptions. Commuters struggled to navigate the waterlogged roads, resulting in many reaching their workplaces late.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released data indicating that from 2:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m., areas like Safdarjung received 148.5 mm of rainfall, Lodhi Road recorded 192.8 mm, Ridge 150.4 mm, Palam 106.6 mm, and Ayanagar 66.3 mm. Experts have pointed to the city's inadequate drainage system as a primary cause of the severe water logging.

As Delhi grapples with these heavy rains, authorities are urged to address the drainage challenges to prevent such disruptions in the future.
