Intense Heatwave Grips Iraq: Provinces Hit 50°C and Above

A scorching heatwave is currently enveloping Iraq, with temperatures soaring past 50 degrees Celsius in several provinces. The Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology reported a blistering 51 degrees Celsius in Dhi Qar province, while neighboring regions Maysan, Basra, and Muthanna recorded temperatures of 50 degrees Celsius.

In response to the extreme heat, the Iraqi authorities have issued warnings against direct exposure to the sun during peak hours. Citizens are advised to remain indoors and limit outdoor activities to prevent heat-related illnesses.

This intense wave of heat is not unusual for Iraq, as the country often experiences blistering summers with temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. In previous years, the government has occasionally declared holidays for public institutions to help citizens cope with the unbearable conditions.

As Iraq grapples with another record-breaking summer, the emphasis remains on public safety and adapting to the increasingly extreme weather patterns.
