China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project has successfully transferred over 70 billion cubic meters of water to the country's drought-prone northern regions through its eastern and middle routes, according to China South-to-North Water Diversion Co., Ltd. This monumental initiative has benefited more than 176 million people across these regions, enhancing the economic and social development of over 40 large and medium cities, including prominent metropolises like Beijing and Tianjin.
The middle route of the project, which is particularly significant, has not only supplied water but also contributed 10 billion cubic meters for ecological purposes in recent years, leading to the revival of various rivers and lakes. Originating from the Danjiangkou Reservoir in Hubei Province, the middle route traverses Henan and Hebei provinces before reaching key urban centers in Beijing and Tianjin.
By addressing water scarcity and supporting ecological sustainability, the South-to-North Water Diversion Project plays a crucial role in fostering balanced regional development and ensuring a stable water supply for millions of residents in China's northern areas.
