Rescue Efforts Intensify in Xizang After 6.8 Magnitude Earthquake

A powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in Xigaze, southwest Xizang Autonomous Region, early Tuesday morning at a depth of 10 kilometers. The region's emergency response has been elevated to Level I, the highest alert, as announced by Xizang's emergency command center.

By late Tuesday night, the first batch of over 5,800 relief supplies, including cotton tents, clothing, and quilts, was urgently dispatched to the affected areas in Dingri. These supplies were coordinated by the Office of the National Commission for Disaster Reduction and Relief, the Ministry of Emergency Management, and the National Grain and Reserves Administration.

Officials stated that an additional 16,000-plus relief items are scheduled to arrive in the disaster zones on Wednesday, aiming to provide immediate support to those impacted by the earthquake. Rescue teams are actively working to ensure that all affected residents receive the necessary aid promptly.

The swift mobilization of resources underscores the commitment to effective disaster response, helping to mitigate the earthquake's impact on the communities in Xizang.
