The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) initiated joint military drills surrounding Taiwan Island at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday. These exercises are taking place in the Taiwan Straits and the northern, southern, and eastern regions surrounding Taiwan, including areas near the islands of Kinmen, Matsu, Wuqiu, and Dongyin.
