Inside China’s Effort: Processing 8,000 Tons of COVID-19 Medical Waste

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, China has been grappling with the challenge of managing an enormous influx of medical waste. To prevent the further spread of the virus, efficient and effective waste processing is crucial.

Li Haipeng, a dedicated medical waste disposal worker in Beijing, has been at the forefront of this effort. Since the pandemic began, Li and his coworkers have tirelessly processed and incinerated both COVID-19 related and domestic medical waste.

All medical waste is meticulously sealed in cartons and promptly incinerated upon arrival at the waste treatment plant. This rigorous process ensures that potentially infectious materials are neutralized swiftly.

By May 20, Li Haipeng and his team had successfully processed around 8,000 tons of COVID-19 waste, showcasing China's commitment to safeguarding public health during these unprecedented times.
