Before 1998, Hongsibu in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was a desolate area shrouded in sandstorms. The landscape was harsh, and the livelihoods of its residents were under constant threat from the unforgiving environment.
Everything changed with the initiation of the Yanghuang Irrigation Project. This ambitious endeavor implemented a four-level pumping system capable of lifting water from the mighty Yellow River to a height of 300 meters. This engineering marvel not only provided a steady water supply but also fostered the creation of the country's largest centralized ecological resettlement area.
With the infusion of river water, Hongsibu witnessed a remarkable transformation. The once barren land blossomed into a lush oasis, providing fertile grounds for agriculture and improving living conditions for the local population. The project played a pivotal role in altering the fate of 230,000 people, offering them new opportunities and a sustainable future.
