Guangdong’s Nianli Festival: A Vibrant Year-Long Tradition

The Nianli Festival, translating to \"Yearly Rite,\" is a grand communal worship event deeply rooted in the traditions of western Guangdong Province in south China. Celebrated primarily during the Chinese New Year period, this centuries-old festival reaches its peak in the coastal cities of Maoming and Zhanjiang. Unlike standard Spring Festival celebrations, Nianli extends beyond the New Year, often lasting through the Lantern Festival and into the second month of the traditional Chinese calendar. Each village hosts its festivities on different dates, making the celebration a diverse and extended cultural experience.
