Shanghai, July 2023 โ The Shanghai Museum is set to become the center of ancient Egyptian history this summer as it welcomes the largest exhibition of Egyptian artifacts ever to leave Egypt. Titled \"On Top of the Pyramid: Exhibition of the Civilization of Ancient Egypt,\" this showcase features an impressive collection of 788 precious artifacts from seven major Egyptian museums, alongside the latest archaeological discoveries from the Saqqara region.
Arriving in Shanghai on Sunday via a specially chartered plane, the artifacts include monumental statues, intricately painted coffins, and precious jewelry that offer a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Egypt. Among the first pieces unveiled on June 17 were the colossal statue of Pharaoh Akhenaten and a painted anthropoid coffin from the significant Saqqara archaeological site.
Exhibition highlights feature statues of legendary pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Amenemhat III, and Ramses II, a complete set of mummy coffins, and exquisite queen jewelry. Visitors will also marvel at the newly discovered painted coffins and animal mummies, reflecting the rich cultural and religious practices of ancient Egyptian civilization.
The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for July 18, with the exhibition opening to the public on July 19. Running for nearly 13 months until August 17, 2025, \"On Top of the Pyramid\" promises to be an unparalleled display of ancient Egyptian heritage, offering visitors an immersive journey into one of history's most fascinating civilizations.
