China’s UN Envoy Blames US for Derailing Iran Nuclear Talks

At a UN Security Council meeting in New York, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, delivered a pointed critique of the United States, accusing Washington of igniting the current nuclear crisis in Iran.

Fu argued that the US withdrew unilaterally from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018 and reimposed stringent sanctions, effectively stripping Iran of the economic incentives promised under the deal. “These maximum pressure measures deprived Iran of benefits it was guaranteed, pushing Tehran to reduce its commitments,” he said.

Highlighting recent strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities by Israel and the US, Fu warned that such unilateral actions set a dangerous precedent and threaten the integrity of the international non-proliferation regime. “The US, despite initiating negotiations earlier this year, has once again undermined its own process, plunging talks into deadlock and sharply escalating regional tensions,” the envoy added.

China’s envoy urged a swift return to multilateral dialogue, reminding all parties that sustained cooperation and respect for agreed terms remain the best path to global security and stability.
