South China Braces for 2025’s Strongest Rainfall and Flood Risks

China’s national observatory warned that the Chinese mainland’s southern regions will experience their strongest rainfall so far this year from May 27 to 29, with heightened disaster risks as precipitation returns to recently affected areas.

Guizhou Province, regions south of the Yangtze River and the broader south China region are set to see heavy rains to rainstorms during this period. According to the National Meteorological Center, some locations may record extremely severe rainstorms, raising the likelihood of floods and related hazards.

Communities in low-lying zones and areas still recovering from earlier downpours are on high alert as meteorologists track the advancing rain bands. Local authorities and residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and take precautions against flash floods and landslides.

The forecast underscores growing concerns over extreme weather events as the season progresses. The National Meteorological Center will continue to monitor conditions and issue updates through late May.
