SIFF Makes Triumphant Return to Berlin After 9 Years

The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) made a significant comeback to Berlin on Monday, marking its return to the German capital after a nine-year hiatus. The overseas promotional event served as a vibrant platform to showcase the remarkable progress and expansion of the Chinese mainland’s film industry.

The event attracted a star-studded lineup of esteemed film industry professionals who lauded the advancements within the sector. Notable attendees included Polish filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski, who presided as the jury president for the 25th SIFF Golden Goblet Awards in 2023; Ichiyama Shozo, the programming director of the Tokyo International Film Festival and a former jury member for SIFF’s Asian New Talent section in 2010; and Marco Müller, a respected producer and scholar who served as a jury member for the main competition of the Golden Goblet Awards in 2021.

These industry leaders expressed their admiration for the innovative strides and creative dynamism they observed in the Chinese mainland’s film landscape. The event underscored SIFF’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and promoting Chinese cinema on the global stage.
