Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on law societies to enhance their role as bridges in advancing law-based governance. In a letter sent to the ninth congress of the China Law Society, which opened on Friday, Xi emphasized the importance of upholding the Party's overall leadership to achieve both Party and national goals.
Xi, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, urged law societies at all levels to make concrete efforts in advancing legal research, supporting the practice of the rule of law, raising public awareness, and training legal professionals. He highlighted the critical role of legal scholars and practitioners in consolidating confidence in the rule of law and contributing to the nation's governance.
At the congress, Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, echoed Xi's sentiments. He stressed the need for sound legislation, strict law enforcement, impartial administration of justice, and society-wide adherence to the law to drive Chinese modernization forward.
The meeting, chaired by Wang Chen, director of the China Law Society, also recognized exemplary groups and individuals within the law society system nationwide, celebrating their contributions to the advancement of legal governance in China.
