A powerful magnitude 6.8 earthquake rocked Dingri County in Xigaze, located in the southwest of China's Xizang Autonomous Region, on Tuesday morning. The disaster claimed 126 lives and left 188 individuals injured.
In the wake of the quake, more than 10,000 dedicated rescuers braved freezing temperatures to sift through the rubble in a massive search and rescue operation. With the search phase now concluded, efforts have shifted towards resettling displaced residents and kicking off post-disaster reconstruction.
Dingri County, situated at an average altitude of 4,500 meters near the northern base camp of Mount Qomolangma—the world's highest peak—presents unique challenges for both the local residents and the rescue teams. The high-altitude environment complicates rescue operations, making the unwavering efforts of these heroes even more commendable.
