Chinese Ambassador Xie Feng Honors Jimmy Carter at Memorial

In a heartfelt gesture, Xie Feng, the Chinese ambassador to the United States, attended the memorial service for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday.

Carter, who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981, passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100.

Following the ceremony, Ambassador Xie visited the U.S. Department of State to express his condolences and sympathy for Carter's passing.

In a book of condolences, Xie highlighted Carter's pivotal role in establishing China-U.S. diplomatic relations. He noted that Carter was a key promoter and decision-maker who significantly contributed to the development of bilateral ties, as well as fostering friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassador Xie emphasized that the people of both countries and the global community continue to benefit from the peace and development brought about by the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. He concluded, \"The Chinese people will always remember him.\"
