Sustainable cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Namibia continues to thrive, marking over three decades of diplomatic relations. Since establishing ties in 1990, the two nations have expanded their partnership across various sectors, notably in trade and cultural exchanges.
In 2023, bilateral trade soared to $1.31 billion, reflecting a 16.5% increase compared to the previous year. This substantial growth underscores the robust economic bond and mutual benefits derived from this partnership.
Further cementing these ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to visit Namibia, along with the Republic of the Congo, Chad, and Nigeria from January 5 to 11. This visit represents the continuation of a 35-year tradition where a Chinese foreign minister undertakes their first overseas trip of the year to Africa, emphasizing China's ongoing commitment to strengthening relations across the continent.
