The Chinese mainland has reached a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey, with the number of 5G mobile subscribers surpassing 1 billion by the end of November, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
As of November, there are 1.002 billion 5G mobile subscribers in the Chinese mainland, making up 56 percent of all mobile users. This growth includes customers from major operators such as China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Broadnet. This marks a 9.4 percentage point increase in the share of 5G subscribers compared to the previous year, highlighting the rapid adoption of next-generation mobile technology.
The total number of mobile subscribers in the Chinese mainland reached 1.79 billion by the end of November, reflecting a net increase of 46.82 million from the previous year. This expansion is a testament to the country's continuous advancements in network infrastructure, including the deployment of 5G stations, gigabit optical networks, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
These infrastructure improvements have fueled a surge in connected users and a substantial increase in mobile network data traffic. By the end of November, the total number of 5G base stations across the Chinese mainland reached 4.191 million, an increase of 815,000 from the previous year, according to the MIIT.
