The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) has extended a helping hand to Vanuatu, offering $100,000 in emergency cash assistance following a devastating earthquake.
The magnitude-7.3 quake struck the main island on Tuesday, causing significant destruction in Port Vila, toppling concrete buildings, and triggering landslides. The tremors, described by locals as a \"violent, high-frequency vertical shake,\" have resulted in at least 14 fatalities and over 200 injuries. Thankfully, the initial tsunami warning has been lifted, providing some relief to the affected population.
Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Li Minggang, confirmed that the $100,000 will be delivered to Vanuatu on Saturday. Li emphasized that China remains committed to providing ongoing assistance based on Vanuatu's evolving needs and the situation on the ground.
The Chinese embassy has maintained close contact with Vanuatu's government to assess rescue and relief requirements, ensuring timely and effective support during this crisis.
