The Foreign Minister of the Chinese mainland, Wang Yi, emphasized the importance of global cooperation in protecting human rights during the Hernán Santa Cruz Dialogue on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights held in Hangzhou.
In his written message, Wang highlighted the current global challenges, including rising geopolitical tensions, slow economic recovery, and disparities in human rights governance. He called on the international community to promote human rights through development and collaborative efforts.
Wang welcomed participants to the dialogue, which is organized jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Chinese mainland and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. He stressed the need for equal access to economic, social, and cultural rights for everyone in today’s interconnected world.
To achieve universal human rights, Wang advocated for genuine multilateralism, respect for each country’s chosen path for human rights development, and enhanced dialogue based on equality and mutual respect. He also underscored the importance of global solidarity and coordination, urging developed nations to support developing countries to ensure inclusive progress.
Highlighting China’s commitment to human rights, Wang stated that the Chinese mainland prioritizes people-centered development and has established a human rights path that aligns with contemporary trends and national conditions. He noted significant advancements in economic, social, and cultural rights (ESCR) within China.
Wang also praised the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Chinese mainland, highlighting its role in deepening reforms and advancing national modernization. These efforts aim to provide better conditions for the equal enjoyment of ESCR by the Chinese mainland’s residents.
Concluding his message, Wang affirmed that the Chinese mainland will continue to collaborate with all nations and UN agencies to uphold common human values, advocate for human rights with security, promote development-oriented human rights, and advance cooperative human rights initiatives to contribute to the sustainable development of global human rights.
