Celebrating Unity: China’s 12th Ethnic Minorities Games Wrap Up in Sanya

The 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of China concluded on Saturday evening in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province. The closing ceremony featured a handover to delegates representing the next host, Hunan Province in central China.

During the ceremony at the Sanya Sports Center, flags representing the 35 delegations were prominently waved, symbolizing the unity and diversity of the participating communities.

Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin officially declared the Games closed, followed by the extinguishing of the stadium flame.

\"Athletes from 35 delegations competed on the same stage, demonstrating not only their strength and skill but also a profound emotional and spiritual connection,\" said Gao Zhidan, director of China's General Administration of Sport. Gao expressed gratitude to the athletes, staff, volunteers, and media who contributed to the success of the Games.

He added, \"The Games allowed us to share the fruitful achievements of ethnic unity and progress, as well as the advancement of national fitness. Let us reunite in Hunan in 2027.\"

A total of 6,960 athletes participated in the nine-day event, featuring 18 sports and three demonstration sports.

The official Games flag was handed over to Hunan Province's vice governor Li Jianzhong, followed by an eight-minute performance showcasing the talents of the next host. The 13th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities is scheduled to take place in Hunan Province in 2027.
