Xi Jinping Advocates for Fair Global Governance at G20 Summit

At the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18, 2024, Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, delivered a comprehensive speech titled \"Working Together for a Fair and Equitable Global Governance System\". Highlighting the G20's 16-year journey, Xi emphasized the collective efforts to navigate global financial crises, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Xi outlined five key areas for enhancing global governance:

  • Global Economic Governance: Promoting sustainable and inclusive growth through strengthened economic partnerships and macro policy coordination.
  • Global Financial Governance: Increasing representation of developing countries in institutions like the World Bank and IMF, and enhancing financial stability through cooperation on digital currencies and sustainable finance.
  • Global Trade Governance: Advocating for WTO reforms, opposing protectionism, and advancing e-commerce agreements to maintain an open global economy.
  • Global Digital Governance: Leading digital transformation and AI governance to ensure technology benefits all, highlighted by the Shanghai Declaration on Global AI Governance.
  • Global Ecological Governance: Committing to the Paris Agreement and promoting green energy transitions to achieve eco-friendly economic growth.

Additionally, Xi stressed the importance of global security governance, calling for the peaceful resolution of conflicts like the Ukraine crisis and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through multilateral cooperation and the implementation of the two-state solution.

Concluding his speech, Xi urged G20 members to renew their commitment to partnership and multilateralism, aiming for a future of shared development and prosperity.
