World Maritime Conference 2024 Showcases Largest Eco-Friendly Car Carriers

The 2024 World Maritime Equipment Conference opened on Friday in Fuzhou, Fujian Province in the Chinese mainland, highlighting the latest breakthroughs in maritime technology. This premier event for the maritime equipment industry aims to drive the sector towards smarter, greener, and more innovative practices, while promoting a global vision of a shared maritime future.

Hosted by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government, the conference adopted the theme \"Carrying the Dreams of Humanity to New Horizons.\" It featured a keynote address and 11 specialized forums covering topics such as intelligent maritime transportation and smart fisheries, with insights from industry experts and leaders.

A standout showcase at the event was the introduction of the Minjiangkou and Liaohekou, two LNG dual-fuel ro-ro vessels built by Mawei Shipyard under Fujian Shipping Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. and Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd. These vessels are the largest eco-friendly car carriers in the world, boasting a maximum capacity of 7,700 vehicles. Operating primarily on LNG with the option for traditional fuel, they offer flexibility while significantly reducing emissions. Compared to traditional carriers, these vessels cut energy consumption by 20 percent and carbon emissions by 27 percent, saving over 2,100 tonnes of carbon per Europe-bound trip.
