Hong Kong SAR has experienced a remarkable boost in tourism, recording nearly 32.6 million visitor arrivals in the first three quarters of 2024. This marks a substantial year-on-year increase of almost 40 percent, according to data released by the Hong Kong Tourism Board on Thursday.
A significant portion of this growth comes from mainland visitors, with over 25.2 million arrivals, representing a 35 percent increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, visitor numbers from other regions have surged by 59 percent, highlighting Hong Kong's expanding global appeal.
September alone saw the city welcoming nearly 3.1 million visitors, a 10-percent rise from the same month last year. Approximately half of these arrivals were overnight visitors, indicating sustained interest in Hong Kong as a key destination.
Particularly noteworthy is the increase in visitors from South Korea and France. In the first three quarters, arrivals from South Korea exceeded 592,000, showcasing a staggering 171.3 percent year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, visitors from France surpassed 93,700, reflecting a 73.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
This upward trend underscores Hong Kong's resilience and its ability to attract a diverse range of tourists, bolstering its position as a major global hub for travel, business, and cultural exchange.
