The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Tuesday that it has added two U.S. firms, PVH Corp. and Illumina, Inc., to its unreliable entity list. This move comes as a response to the companies' alleged violations of standard market trading principles, including the termination of regular trade with Chinese companies and the adoption of discriminatory measures against them.
According to the Ministry, these actions have severely harmed the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese businesses. The decision aims to uphold national sovereignty, security, and development interests in line with relevant laws and regulations.
The unreliable entity list mechanism will enforce corresponding measures against PVH Corp. and Illumina based on applicable laws, the Ministry stated. In a subsequent statement, a spokesperson from the Ministry emphasized that China is handling the unreliable entity list with prudence, targeting only a few foreign entities that disrupt market rules and violate Chinese laws.
The spokesperson reassured that foreign entities operating with integrity and in compliance with the law need not worry. Furthermore, the Chinese government remains open to enterprises from around the world, committed to providing a stable, fair, and predictable business environment for foreign companies that adhere to laws and regulations.
