Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, an island in the southern part of the Chinese mainland's Guangdong Province, on Thursday morning.
Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the chairman of the Central Military Commission, engaged in warm conversations with residents of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) who have established businesses in the cooperation zone, as well as with individuals involved in the zone's planning, construction, management, and services.
The president arrived in Macao on Wednesday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to China and to attend the inauguration of its sixth-term government, in addition to embarking on his inspection tour.
During his visit, Xi toured an exhibition hall that featured photographs, charts, and physical models illustrating the integrated development of Hengqin and Macao, along with the milestones achieved through Guangdong-Macao cooperation in recent years.
Xi emphasized that significant progress has been made since the establishment of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, with the integration between Hengqin and Macao steadily improving. He highlighted the increasing support for Macao's diversified economic development and affirmed that the central government's decision to develop Hengqin and build the cooperation zone has been absolutely correct.
