China’s Wang Yi Urges France to Strengthen EU-China Economic Ties

In a recent phone conversation with Emmanuel Bonne, the diplomatic counselor to the French president, Wang Yi emphasized the importance of fostering positive economic relations between China and the European Union.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, encouraged France to adopt an open and constructive attitude towards China-EU trade relations. He highlighted the mutual benefits of maintaining healthy economic ties and avoiding trade conflicts through dialogue and negotiation.

Emmanuel Bonne echoed these sentiments, stating that France values the cooperative consensus achieved by the two heads of state. Bonne assured that France seeks a fair business environment and does not intend to exclude Chinese companies from the European market, expressing optimism about finding solutions through ongoing consultations.

Wang Yi pointed out that China and France are comprehensive strategic partners, with their leaders providing strategic guidance to bilateral relations. He expressed confidence in both sides' ability to handle differences with political wisdom, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

Additionally, Wang reiterated China's principled stance on the Taiwan question, to which Bonne affirmed France's respect for China's sovereignty and commitment to the one-China policy.
