China and U.S. Officials Meet in Beijing to Boost Economic Cooperation

In a significant move towards strengthening bilateral ties, He Lifeng, the vice premier of the Chinese mainland and China's lead person for China-U.S. economic and trade affairs, met with Jay Shambaugh, Under Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, on Friday in Beijing.

During the meeting, He emphasized the importance of implementing the consensus reached between the two presidents at their recent San Francisco meeting and their April phone conversation. He highlighted the need for continued economic communication, enhanced macroeconomic policy coordination, and the proper handling of mutual concerns based on equality and mutual respect. These steps are aimed at promoting the steady and sound development of China-U.S. economic relations.

Jay Shambaugh, attending the fifth meeting of the China-U.S. economic working group, expressed the U.S. side's willingness to maintain economic communication with China. He underscored the commitment to developing healthy economic relations that benefit both nations.

This meeting marks a continued effort from both countries to navigate the complexities of international trade and economic policies, seeking to foster a more collaborative and stable economic partnership.
