Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Spearhead Global AI Governance at Shanghai Conference

Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to play a pivotal role at the 2024 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai. Scheduled for July 4, Premier Li will deliver a keynote speech, highlighting China's commitment to fostering international cooperation in artificial intelligence.

The conference, now in its sixth year, adopts the theme \"Governing AI for Good and for All.\" It aims to create platforms for open, inclusive, and equal participation, advancing global AI governance and shaping a fair and effective regulatory framework.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized China's advocacy for wide participation and consensus-based decision-making in AI governance. \"We promote broad international consensus based on full respect for the differences in policies and practices of all countries,\" Mao stated.

The Shanghai conference will gather government officials, representatives from international organizations, industry leaders, academics, and researchers. Mao expressed optimism, saying, \"We look forward to the full exchange of insights in Shanghai in the spirit of extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit, to build consensus and promote the healthy, safe and orderly development of AI.\"
