China’s Auto Exports Soar 30% in Early 2024, Signaling Economic Confidence

China is kicking off 2024 with a robust surge in foreign trade, signaling strong economic confidence. In a record-breaking move, nearly 4,000 cars were exported from Fuzhou Port's Jiangyin area in Fujian Province to Europe on Thursday alone – the highest number ever shipped from this port in a single trip.

He Yonghui, head of the port's ocean shipping agency business, shared with China Media Group that the increasing car exports highlight the growing popularity of Chinese vehicles among international consumers. \"Our achievement this month reflects the rising global demand and the strengthening presence of Chinese cars in the overseas markets,\" He Yonghui remarked.

Supporting these numbers, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) reported a 30.5% year-on-year surge in auto exports, reaching 822,000 units in the first two months of 2024. Experts from CAAM attribute this growth to technological innovation, effective cost control, and mature industrial chains, keeping China's automobile industry competitive on the global stage.

In addition to the automotive boom, China’s overall foreign trade in goods totaled 6.61 trillion yuan (approximately $930.96 billion) from January to February, marking an 8.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Exports grew by 10.3% year-on-year to 3.75 trillion yuan, while imports rose by 6.7% to 2.86 trillion yuan. Machinery and electronic products made up nearly 60% of total exports.

Experts from the General Administration of Customs (GAC) noted that the strong start to 2024 reflects recovering global demand. They expect that China's exports will continue to expand moderately throughout the year, reinforcing the nation's position in the international market.
