Earlier this month, from December 14 to 15, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid a visit to Amman at the invitation of Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi. Against the backdrop of a shifting global landscape, the two sides seized the opportunity to chart a course for deeper collaboration across multiple fronts.
In a joint press event, both ministers highlighted their shared vision: harnessing bilateral ties for tangible benefits to the people of China and Jordan. They committed to ongoing dialogue and coordination to advance their nations' development agendas.
Key areas of cooperation include:
- Traditional sectors: trade and economy, infrastructure, energy, defense, transportation, and the judiciary
- Emerging fields: scientific and technological innovation, communication technology, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and green energy
- Societal and cultural exchanges: tourism, media, education, think tanks, and streamlined personnel exchanges
Jordan reiterated its adherence to the one-China principle, emphasizing that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.
Turning to regional challenges, both sides voiced strong support for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. They urged immediate and sustainable humanitarian access, coupled with genuine political efforts to establish a sovereign and independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with relevant UN resolutions.
Jordan welcomed President Xi Jinping's major proposals on the Palestinian issue and his announcement of new aid to Palestine. China, in turn, praised Jordan's role in promoting regional security and facilitating humanitarian relief in Gaza, and affirmed the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Muslim and Christian holy sites.
Looking ahead, both countries underscored the China–Arab States Cooperation Forum as a key platform for active engagement. Jordan reiterated its support for China's hosting of the second China–Arab States Summit in 2026, a milestone for strengthening ties between China and the Arab world.
This high-level exchange in Amman signals a dynamic era of China–Jordan cooperation, blending economic ambition with cultural dialogue and shared commitment to regional stability.
